When you think of fine dining, places like New York and Paris come to mind. Sure, big cities like Las Vegas and Miami have their share of fine fare, too. But the crowning of the latest king of cuisine proves what locals and visitors to the Daytona Beach area have known for years. There are some great restaurants and world-class chefs in this coastal paradise.

After months of grueling competition, Danny Veltri, executive chef at Flip Flops Grill & Chill in New Smyrna Beach, was selected as the winner of TV’s Hell’s Kitchen. He and his fellow competitors had to demonstrate their skills, excel at challenges, do all kinds of tedious tasks and put up with the complaints and bad attitudes of their rivals. Withstanding the constant criticism of cantankerous Chef Gordon Ramsey, the ultimate judge, pushed some chefs over the edge. Veltri’s cool-under-fire demeanor and creativity in the kitchen made him the winner of the $250,000 prize and a position as head chef at a new upscale restaurant at the Borgata Hotel Casino in Atlantic City. Yes, Veltri, is thrilled to have won. His only complaints are having to leave behind friends and family, and the wonderful weather of coastal central Florida.

Daytona Beach and surrounding areas have lots of franchise and chain eateries. You can get a good meal at a reasonable price and not have many complaints. But for those who wish to try something special, the possibilities are virtually endless. From fresh seafood, a local specialty, to all types of Asian, European, Latin American, island and regional American cuisine, some of the finest chefs and best restaurants are just a short drive away.

If you have dietary restrictions or preferences, no problem. There are many restaurants that offer meatless menus that would please the pickiest vegetarian. For a nice selection of Middle Eastern specialties and kosher deli dishes, Jerusalem Grill in Ormond Beach has shawarma, falafel and tasty corned beef.

Even if you live in New York City, finding a great bagel is not that easy. The perfect bialy is even harder to track down. But in Daytona Beach Shores, New York Style Bagel Deli has been pleasing area residents and visitors alike for years.

For anyone thinking about purchasing real estate, long-term rentals or vacation rentals in the vicinity, Waverly Property Group, a full service realtor with waterfront expertise, is close by. The members of the expert realty team, led by Ramara Garrett, broker/owner, have been living here for a long time, and love to dine out. After you stop by and learn more about the wide array of real estate offerings and management services, feel free to ask the experts about all the area has offer. Waverly Property Group agents are eager to share their epicurean knowledge of the best places to eat in greater Daytona. They can help you pick a winner, too.
