Daytona dining with a million dollar view
When we’re hungry and in a hurry to get something to eat, an occasional quick trip to a fast food restaurant is all right. The food we get at these places is not the best-tasting and not the healthiest either. Ambiance? Not what these eateries win awards for. Scenery? Nothing to write home about.
The Daytona Beach area has more than its fair share of hamburger, chicken and tacos-to-go franchises. But it also has a nice variety of restaurants where fine dining, a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and fantastic views make eating out such an enjoyable experience. There are lots of Daytona restaurants that offer a great meal that comes with a million dollar view, many with moderately priced menus.
In Ormond-by-the-Sea, Alfies Restaurant has been serving some of the best breakfast and seafood dishes around to satisfied customers for 23 years. The décor is very Florida and lots of fun - a big (stuffed) alligator greets guests at the door. Great photo op for first-timers!
One of the most popular items on the menu is the fish fry. This mild haddock that comes with a choice of sides and some of the best bread around town is also on the early bird menu. If you stop by on Thursday, a yummy haddock dinner - fried or broiled - is only $8.99. The bonus - Alfies is across A1A from the beach and gives diners a fantastic view of the Atlantic.
Port Orange is home to a landmark eatery, Aunt Catfish’s on the River. The down-home décor and coastal cuisine are simply charming, as are the friendly and attentive staff. Shrimp, talapia and, of course, catfish are some of the delectable offerings. Their huge selection at the salads and fixings bar are simply amazing. Their scrumptious homemade cinnamon rolls and hush puppies are so good. Their location on the Halifax River gives diners a beautiful sight to enjoy as they have a relaxing and satisfying meal. Prices are quite reasonable, especially for the early bird and lunch specials. Of course, if you order a lump crab appetizer, a large lobster, a couple of cocktails and a fancy dessert, the cost will add up.
Undoubtedly, the best view around can be found at the Top of Daytona. This restaurant-in-the-round is on top of a high-rise landmark on A1A in Daytona Beach Shores. The 360-degree view of the Atlantic, the Intracoastal Waterway and miles in every direction from this 29th floor vantage point is simply stunning. Night or day, you’ll feel like you’re floating in the clouds at this elegant eatery. At sunset, the subtly changing colors of the skyline are awe-inspiring, so bring your camera.
While early bird prices are reasonable enough to dine here frequently, it is a great place to celebrate a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary. The menu offerings are varied and include assorted seafood and pasta.
