Embry Riddle in Daytona Beach
The Daytona Beach area has many options for anyone seeking to further their education through college and schools. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), Daytona Beach Community College, and Bethune-Cookman University are located in Daytona Beach. Palmer College of Chiropractic is located in Port Orange.
ERAU is the world’s leading college for aviation and aerospace and it is one of Daytona Beach Schools offering quality higher education. Many students attend each year to earn their flight ratings as well as an Aeronautical Science degree. Other students come to study engineering, flight safety, or human factors at this, to name a few. The Daytona Beach school has a reputation for placing graduates into their chosen careers shortly after graduation, and is therefore widely known as a career-oriented university.
Though Embry-Riddle has a second University campus in Prescott, Arizona, many students choose the Daytona Beach college campus for a number of reasons. Many of the educational programs are more extensive in Daytona Beach, including a bigger fleet of aircraft for student training. Though the Daytona Beach campus is smaller than Prescott in acreage, it houses more than twice the number of students and offers many more options for student activities and social interaction.
However, the local activities of Daytona Beach are also a prime motivation for students to choose this location. The warm beaches, affordable Daytona Beach real estate and laid back atmosphere are plenty of attraction for some, while others prefer to attend the races at the Daytona International Speedway or mingle with bikers during Bike Week and Biketoberfest.
There is plenty of nightlife for students at the bars and clubs on beachside, which is separated from the mainland by the Halifax River. The Ocean Deck is a prominent social location for Embry-Riddle students, with a restaurant upstairs and the bar and dance floor below. At the back of the bar, the Ocean Deck opens up right onto the sandy beaches.
Not far from the Ocean Deck is the Ocean Walk Shoppes plaza, which is home to the R/C Ocean Walk Movies, Mai Tai Bar, Coldstone Creamery, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Maui Nix and many more. There is a band shell behind the plaza where many local musicians perform free concerts. Other entertainers often set up amid the visitors in the main square.
Many students also enjoy The Red Tail Bar & Grill, which is owned and run by an Embry-Riddle alumnus and often hosts events for ERAU fraternities and sororities as well as senior parties.
A number of dance clubs branch off from Seabreeze Blvd., a popular thoroughfare on beachside. Visitors can walk between Razzle’s, Chaps –a country western club, and Rain Supper Club, to find their favorite atmosphere.
All these and more attract many ERAU students and other visitors. Back on campus, Embry-Riddle students may spend their free time in the extensive Hunt Library, working out at the new Tine Davis Fitness Center, or tanning at the pool. Across from the gym and pool there are six racquetball courts, three of which are home to some of ERAU’s martial arts clubs. These clubs include Tae Kwon Do, Kendo, and kick-boxing, among others.
Just outside the racquetball courts, students can make use of bar-b-cue pits, which can also be found in several other locations across campus. Or they can dine at any one of the number of dining services options in the nearby Student Center, including deli sandwiches or subs, burgers, fries, hot dogs, a luscious salad bar, oriental dishes, pizza or pasta, and several others. Also in walking distance of classes are a Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, and the well-loved Propellers Restaurant, which is known for having the best burgers on campus.
ERAU is just one of many options available for further education in the Daytona Beach area. Its array of educational opportunities, combined with a variety of student activities, local destinations, and delicious dining choices make it a prime destination for fulfilling your higher education needs.
